INTERNSHIP: NICOLE BIRD

Nicole comes from the US and is pursuing a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Science at Reykjavik University with a focus on economics, sustainable engineering and energy policy. She joined the COMPILE partner and coordinator Laboratory of Energy Policy (LEST) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the University of Ljubljana for six months as part of the Erasmus+ study exchange.
During her visit, she will be working on the preparation of her master’s thesis on energy communities with the title “Analysis of the concept of self-sufficiency of RES of the local energy community of Luče.” Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Andrej Gubina and senior researcher Tomi Medved, PhD, Nicole will be examining factors that influence the self-sufficiency of an REC as well as performing a sensitivity analysis to determine the optimal structure of an REC to achieve self-sufficiency, using the COMPILE pilot site Luče as a case study.
